Aims and Objectives

- Help the athlete identify a comfortable, natural hold

Equipment and Set-up
- Standard bat
- Quiet space for tactile exploration
- Coach positioned beside or in front of the athlete
Demonstration and Description
- Coach guides the athlete to hold the bat in a relaxed, neutral way.
- Athlete explores gripping the full handle, half handle, and a modified grip.
- Coach invites the athlete to describe how each grip feels (pressure, comfort, control).
- Athlete selects the grip that feels most natural and repeats holding it several times to build familiarity.
Coaching Points
Technical
- Fingers wrap comfortably around the handle
- Wrist remains mobile
- Bat face stays stable
Tactical
- Grip should allow quick adjustments for different shot types
Physical
- No tension in forearm or wrist
- Grip pressure remains light
Drill Progression
- Introduce small wrist movements
- Ask athlete to rotate the bat slightly to feel control
- Add gentle taps on the bat to test stability
