Introducing Showdown

Showdown is a fast‑paced, dynamic sport designed so that people with a visual impairment can compete on completely equal terms. Played one‑on‑one on a specially designed table, it’s often described as a blend of air hockey and table tennis, but with its own unique rhythm, strategy, and excitement.

Players use sound, touch, and spatial awareness to track the ball, anticipate movement, and outmanoeuvre their opponent. Every player wears blackout eye-shades, ensuring a level playing field for all.

How the Game Works

The objective is simple: Strike the ball off the side wall, send it under the centre screen, and guide it into your opponent’s goal.

A set is won by the first player to reach 11 points with a two‑point lead. Matches may be played over one, three, or five sets. Each player serves twice in succession.

Scoring includes:

  • 2 points for a goal
  • 1 point for certain fouls (e.g., hitting the screen, sending the ball off the table, touching the ball with anything other than the bat or batting hand)
